Upcoming Volunteer Garden Work Days Sunday June 3rd & 17th

looking to volunteer?
Please join us at one of our upcoming workdays. Workdays are kid friendly. RSVP is suggested but not necessary. Bring clothes that can get dirty, a water bottle and gloves if you have them.

Sunday, June 3, 12-4pm
Garden Workday: Garden Design and Maintenance
Please join us for a fun and educational workday in our Community Demonstration Garden. Learn how different garden designs facilitate different gardening uses and goals, as well as basic organic maintenance.

Sunday, June 17, 12-4pm
Garden Workday: Composting for healthy soil.
Please join us for a fun and educational workday in our Community Demonstration Garden. Learn about the base of a healthy garden, healthy and fertile soil. Lean about composting basics and different systems.

Past Programs!

Community Demonstration Garden
A center for historical and modern day horticultural education, with an emphasis on sustainable and organic production techniques. We grow over 36 types of vegetables, 8 berries and 15 herbs in our plus a variety of historical and heirloom herbs and vegetables in our Kitchen Garden. The gardens beautify M Fidler Wyckoff House Park and neighborhood, serves as a model for successful urban agriculture, produce food to be sold at the Market and brings to life the agrarian history of the site.

The Wyckoff Farmers Market
Provides a site for the sale and purchase of local healthy foods as well as a place for the community to meet for education, entertainment and leisure. The Market supplies fresh healthy foods to the public at affordable prices, as well as through the use of WIC Project Fresh coupons and EBT, and provides a point of sale for our Youth Internship Program products.

Youth Entrepreneurship Program
Teaches youth about entrepreneurship, community leadership and sustainable agriculture through experiential learning. The Youth learn business planning and development through creating their own garden-based business and working at the Market.

Free Garden Workshops & Events
A series of free garden education events throughout the growing season, including workshops on cooking, composting, medicinal herbs, and natural pest control. The workshops and Events are free fun and educational activities every Sunday at the Market.

Want to Help Out?

Please do! We love volunteers and have lots of great opportunities to get involved! We are looking for people to help out with gardening and grounds keeping, if you love getting dirty, hanging out in parks, growing delicious food or awesome people then give us a call! We are also looking for help with outreach and event planning, or if you have an idea of something you would like to do at the park, that would be great too!

HOLIDAY CANDLELIGHT TOURS

Saturday, December 16, 2006
4-5 PM Reservations required.

Experience New York’s oldest house in candlelight and learn about traditional Dutch-American holiday decorations and customs. Warm up with hot cider and cookies at the end of the tour.

Thursday, June 21, 2007 5-7 PM
Summer Thursday evening hours fireside feasts
Join historical interpreter, Carolina Capehart for an evening of fireside cooking, early 1800s-style. Enjoy a fun evening of hands-on historic foodways, including preparation, cooking, and eating! The evening’s menu will be standard fare of cornbread and butter featuring Wyckoff family recipes.

Farmer’s Market Opening Celebration!
& Garden Workshop: Cooking Fresh & Container Planting
Fresh, local, healthy foods for sale in the M Fidler Wyckoff Park, with rotating workshops and demonstrations on gardening topics. Join us for a cooking demonstration on cooking with fresh seasonal vegetables. Free workshop on easy container planting.

Tuesday Volunteer Days

Come volunteer in our community demonstration garden, every other Tuesday from 10am-2pm with our Youth Entrepreneurs. (7/3, 7/17, 7/31, 8/14, 8/28). We need help weeding, planting mulching and harvesting all summer long and into the fall.

Thursday Workshop & Volunteer Days

Please join us for a quick hands on lesson on organic gardening techniques, and then apply what you’ve learned in our garden. Thursday evenings from 4-7pm June 24^th, July 26^th and August 28^th.
